Winter tennis feels a long way off in October. Both competitions finished for 2026 in September, and Tennis Canterbury is taking interest for next year.
Tennis Canterbury runs two indoor adult winter competitions at Wilding Park, Business House and Winter Interclub. Rain isn't a worry. Winter Interclub matches are advertised as "guaranteed - whatever the weather!"
Business House
A midweek social competition with a friendlier structure than interclub. It runs in Terms 2 and 3 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Play is three 30-minute rounds, from 6:30pm and 8:15pm. There's a bar on site and free light food afterwards.
Term 3 this year had two divisions on each of the three nights, plus a Wednesday 5pm division. Every division has a points ladder and draw on the Matchpoint results site, so you can see how a night runs.
Winter Interclub
Saturdays, in two-hour rounds starting at 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm, from May to September across two terms.
Teams are three players and play two singles and two doubles, using Fast Four scoring. Seven divisions, One to Seven. It's played for an affiliated club, so ask Tennis Canterbury how a team gets put together if you're not in one.
Which one
Business House if your Saturdays are spoken for. Winter Interclub if you'd rather have a team and a weekend slot. Summer is different: summer interclub for adults is club-based and runs October to March.
Getting in

The hard part of joining a competition is finding a regular night and someone at your level who can do it. That's what Hitter is for. More at hitter.nz.
