If you're making a plan to play at Elmwood, check what sort of visit you mean. The courts are at a club, and its online booking is described as a member benefit. A coaching session is a different way in.
Elmwood Tennis Club is at 83 Heaton Street, beside Elmwood Park in Merivale. The club says there's free parking down the driveway through the gates on the park's east side. It has nine courts: six synthetic-grass and three hard, with lights on six. That's a lot of choice for a member arranging a hit, but the club's booking page is not a promise that anyone can walk in and take a court.
If you're not a member
The club's current events page lists advanced mixed adult coaching on Saturdays, 11.30am to 12.30pm, at $18 for a non-member. That's a coached session, not casual court hire. It also lists a Friday morning men's doubles group at $15 for a non-member, but says to book in each week. Check the events page and confirm the session is running before turning up.
There is Saturday afternoon social doubles too. The club says members can turn up and be paired for friendly matches. If you're visiting rather than joining, ask the club before treating that as an open drop-in.
If you want your own court
For the 2026/27 club year, Elmwood lists senior playing membership at $415, an 18-to-25 membership at $345, and senior membership with interclub at $485. Members can book courts for recreational play. Those are published annual package prices, not a rate for one hit. Check the membership page for the current amount and terms before paying.
If a public court suits your plans better, Christchurch City Council lists one full public tennis court at Merivale Reserve on Rugby Street. It's a separate place, not an Elmwood club court. Public use doesn't mean a court will be empty at your chosen time.
The real question is whether you want a club session, your own member booking, or a public-court hit with someone you know. Hitter helps you find a player to make the last one happen.
