Most adult lesson advice is for people who've never held a racquet. Fair enough. But if you can already rally and your serve is the problem, the options thin out.
Christchurch does have a few group classes pitched above beginner. Some are mid-block, some run all year.
Burnside Park
Burnside Park Tennis Club runs an 8-week adult evening class for mixed improver and intermediate players on Tuesdays at 6:30pm. It started on 13 October, so you'd be joining late. Registration is through the club's ClubSpark page, and the club said places were already filling. Ask them about the price.
St Albans
St Albans has an adult intermediate group: an hour a week for 16 weeks, six players to a coach, $240. That's $15 a lesson. The groups start in school Terms 1 and 4. Ask the club (info@stalbanstennis.co.nz) for days and times.
Te Kura Hagley Park
The Tuesday morning ladies group, 9:30 to 10:30am, is pitched at beginner to intermediate. One-off sessions are welcome, but you need to pre-book. Price depends on group size, and Lee Harborne is the contact (027 921 0588).
There's also a Tuesday 6 to 7pm Xpress and intermediate group, $13 for members and $18 for non-members. The club labels it for beginner players, so it suits you more if your game is rusty. Pre-booking is essential: text the coach, Hugo, at least 24 hours before.
Waimairi
Waimairi's Cardio Tennis is Mondays at 7:30pm, an 8-week Term 4 block that started on 12 October. It's open to all abilities. It's a workout more than a technique session. $160 for non-members, $125 for members or a member's parent.
Which one
For fixing strokes, St Albans is the best value per lesson on paper. For trying a class without committing a term, Te Kura's ladies group takes one-off sessions, if it suits you.
Burnside is the one to contact first if the late start is a worry. Ask if they'd take you in mid-block.
A class makes you a bit better, but it won't line up someone to hit with on a Sunday. That's the gap Hitter is for: finding people at your level who are free when you are.
